I got a good nights sleep compared to the previous night as the train remained parked in Dundee until about 0800. We got up and worked on our journals until breakfast was called. The first dining car filled up so Donna, Jonathan and I had the second car all to ourselves until we were joined by Jamen, Pól, and Stuart. During breakfast, the train started moving again on the final leg to Edinburgh. I had a tasty breakfast of poached eggs and haggis with sausage. We returned to our room and packed our bags as the train crew would be offloading them onto carts just after our arrival at Edinburgh’s Waverly Station. So we spent the rest of the trip in the observation car watching the last of the countryside go by and crossed the Forth Railway Bridge.
Upon arrival, we said our farewells on the platform – I found out then that the Royal Scotsman staff handle the return of the kilt hire to Kinloch Anderson which I greatly appreciated. John of the train crew assisted in obtaining taxi rides. Ours was just a short hop to the Radisson Blu with all our luggage. Upon checking in Jonathan tried to take a nap while I logged into the hotel WiFi to get several days worth of email.
After lunch in the hotel’s bar/restaurant, we walked over to the Royal Museum of Scotland to look at early artifacts – pre-Roman and Roman times. We both agreed that the display lighting was inadequate. I was dragging through the museum – I was sleepy and my knees ached. So after Mr. Lubin had his fill of Celtic artifacts – mostly gold and silver work – we went back to the hotel where Jonathan spent the rest of the afternoon gently snoring while I got up at about 1630 and read news online until we went up and across the street to an Italian restaurant where we had a most satisfactory meal and dessert.
