Yesterday’s winds seem to have persisted into today, blowing so hard that I had to tuck the cloth napkin under my leg to keep it from blowing away. After breakfast we’ve repaired to the upstairs patio where I’m catching up on my journal, while watching the myna birds perch on the rail overlooking the restaurant, diving down out of sight then returning to their vigilance.
In the evening we had dinner at Roy’s Waikoloa Bar and Grill; I had scallops as the main, and we split a pineapple upside down cake for dessert. It was almost as good as night before. We rearranged and redistributed our luggage when we returned to the room, as we had an early flight to Honolulu then next morning.
Dropping off the rental car, and checking our bags, our flight to HNL was no problem, although I didn’t trust the possibility of trying to check our bags all the way through to LAX. As a result, we had to collect the bags and schlep them from one end of the Honolulu International Airport to the other – literally, United's gates were at the opposite end. The flight to LAX had problems – over a 3 hour delay arriving and departing. This was less noxious than it could have been as we both got complimentary upgrades. The downside was that we got into LAX after midnight, and finally fell into bed at 0230 with a needy cat (Xena) and a 0530 alarm.
