mossy tree trunk
The only good picture I took this day (you can also get a slightly larger version).

Sunday, 18 November,
last full day in the Tarkine

Nothofagus leaves

Moss

Moss of some kind (big image, small).

sunlight illuminating leaves from below

Unknown leaves (big image, small).

fungi, maybe puffballs

These look like puffballs to me
(big image, small).

Surprisingly few pictures today, considering the large number on Mark’s page, but the testimony of my photo files is that I took many alternative shots of a few objects, and distressingly many of the objects turned out to be totally uninteresting.

Mark napping

Lazy afternoon (big image, small).

What was perhaps the most satisfying aspect of the day, and what is not testified to in my photos, is that after a lunch on the trail, cooked by Jo on a field stove, Trevor took Mark and me back to base camp while the others climbed down to a river below. During this relatively leisurely hike (even though it still involved climbs that I could have done without), we talked more personally with Trevor than we had had the opportunity to do earlier. He again revealed himself to be rather more interesting and deep-thinking than any of the others of our group, the two of us included.

We would be leaving bright and early the next day, so took advantage of the time before dinner to prepare our many and dispersed possessions for the trip back to Launceston.
