Pictures from Mark’s and my visit to Greene in September, ’06
Bee on goldenrod |
The highlight of the week was our excursion to New York by train to visit the Planetarium and the American Museum of Natural History. I’ve included pictures from my whole visit, however.
(Click on each thumbnail to view the picture, then return to this page by hitting the “back” button on your browser. The pictures you see are only 1/4 the size of the original (less, in some cases!), and if you’d like me to send you an original file of any picture, or the files of many, just let me know.)

The above are pictures I took in the evenings of Tuesday and Friday, before Mark drove in from Newark airport late Friday. Below are pictures from the next day, when we drove to Kingston to pick up the train to Pennsylvania Station. From there, we took the IND line up to the Planetarium and the American Museum of Natural History.
For me, when I was a kid, it was the dinosaurs that seemed the best thing in the Museum, but I didn’t get the idea that the girls were so thrilled by them. But they really liked all the Indian clothes and artifacts.

We might have seen 5% of what is in the AMNH, but all of us had serious fatigue of the eyebones by about 2:30PM, and so we went outside to sit on the Museum’s steps, not far from the imposing equestrian statue of Theodore Roosevelt. The picture of Maddy sleeping under one of the one-word descriptions of Teddy is one of my favorites of the day. After resting a while, we went across Central Park West so the kids could run and play a bit.
We took the IND line down to 42nd Street and Eighth Avenue, and walked eastward to Times Square, then up to 45th Street, and turned west again, when what what to our wondering eyes should appear but THE LION KING, playing at the Minskoff. This required a special snapshot!
A high point of the trip! |
From there, we walked along 45th Street to Shubert Alley, and Harris was in Seventh Heaven, in the very Heart of The Theater District.
From there, it was a short walk to Penn Station, but since we had lots of time,
we stopped along the way at a fairly decent deli, notable for its excellent dill
pickles and pickled beets. The rest of the food was perfectly acceptable, too.
By the time we got to the train station, we were definitely ready to wind down,
and on the train itself I think most of us slept at least part of the way.
The next day was Sunday, a day for resting and thinking about our adventures.
