Puerto Natales Hotel, view out
Our hotel in Puerto Natales had a view of the waterfront.

This travel day, we piled onto our bus in Ancud, the principal city of Chiloé, where we had been staying for two nights, and drove to the airport in Puerto Montt. From there we picked up one of the regular Santiago-to-Punta Arenas flights, all of which stop midway in Puerto Montt, and flew southwards.

To Patagonia!

Once landed, we climbed onto another bus, which took us about a hundred miles northwards to Puerto Natales, a busy town that is jumping-off point for all the tourists and adventurers wanting to enjoy the reserves and parks of the area. I took no pictures, except for two in our hotel room, but this day was memorable for the superb supper we had in our hotel’s restaurant. I had Congrio, conger eel, a most wonderful fish, and it was perfectly cooked. A great Chilean Carménère complemented it, and a nice dessert finished the meal off very satisfyingly. Yum!

We went to bed in anticipation of the next day’s drive into the hinterlands to the Parque Nacional Torres del Paine.
