2012 Pine Point

04 August

Maddy and Devlin walking the sandbar.

I was the first up again, although Harris came down shortly after I did. Low tide was at 7:11am, and I hadn't been out on the sand bars yet. So after I had my first cup of coffee, I headed down to the beach. I invited Harris to join me, but she declined. I took my camera with me and took numerous snaps, most of which I expect to be decidedly uninteresting. So as I was approaching the crossing back to the beach, I found Maddy and Devlin wading across, and told me they were looking for an adult to accompany them on the sand bars. I allowed that I was willing and able to make a second lap, so we walked back out to the tip just opposite Prout's Neck across the Scarborough River.

A clamdigger on the flats - he may have actually been a fisherman, digging up a surf clam to use a bait.

A woman fishing in the Scarborough River - she caught a striper (striped bass) that was about 18 inches long. It needed to be over 20 for her to keep it.

Looking back at the Point - the jetty and the Scarborough River.

A lobster boat makes its way out the river to begin the day's work.

I found this solitary pine at the end of Prouts Neck fascinating.

Devlin wades through the shallows with the high rise condos in the background.

Maddy. One of my better shots of her; the stick she's holding got nicknamed 'Wilson.'

Devlin took a nap after the walk on the beach, her nose sunburned.

Harris, however, was alert.

After lunch, Jonathan and I went into Portland to visit Ray Giroux and Dave Petrie, friends Jonathan has known since the mid-60's. We sat on their deck under the shade of a pair of old maple trees and chatted for a couple of hours, sampling the chocolates that we had picked up at Len Libby's as a gift for Ray and Dave on the way.

On our way back, we headed into the Old Port Exchange where we stopped at the Abacus gallery (our favorite), and had dinner at the Grill Room, also a favorite. The couple next to us had the pork chops, but were unable to finish the second piece, and offered us the chop to take home to the dog. We both ordered a la carte and practically the same things - a beet and goat cheese salad to start, duck breast and mushroom risotto. The differences was I asked for the red wine sauce, JDL the "zippy" sauce, and I had green beans with bacon, while Mr. Lubin had the creamed spinach.

From there we dropped by the Apple store and picked up another Apple Airport to use as a repeater for our WiFi base unit to be placed in the Cottage to provide signal there. By the time we arrived, M'lyn, Diane and Walter had established their base in the rental, and were at the Little House where dinner was under preparation. Jonathan and I spent our time struggling with the WiFi.

Later that evening, Mason arrived 11pm flight from DCA - picked up by Cindy and the three girls.
