Horns under cloudy sky, 1 Horns under cloudy sky, 2 As the day got cloudier, our walk along the lake afforded some spectacular views. (Left thumbnail: big image; small; right: big image; small.)

We were exhausted after so much walking—this day was the longest walking day of the tour—but Charlie asked if we wanted to take a little detour to see the Salto Grande of the Río Paine, and we all said to go for it. After all, we were in the bus by now, and the only effect was to delay our return to our rooms and our Pisco Sours by twenty minutes or so. The falls are the outflow from Lago Nordenskjöld into Lago Pehoé—not high, but very impressive nonetheless. The left shot (big image; small) and the center (big image; small) are looking upstream, while in the right (big image; small), we’re looking at the rapids downstream from the falls, and so are Russ and Len.
