Our flight was at 1:30AM on the first of November, flying Copa to Panamá City. This meant that we had to have the limo pick us up at 8:30 Hallowe’en night.
We both decided to keep diaries, mostly to help us remember details
of the trip. Mark was always more prompt about this than I was,
and more faithful. Here he is in LAX Terminal 6, writing in the
diary at a time when so far there was hardly anything to report. Click on the

Of course we were supposed to get to the terminal two hours before
departure, so the two pictures you see here were in fact taken around
11:30 Hallowe’en night. I guess that the other passengers were
not as nervous as we were about getting to LAX so early, since as you
see, the place was deserted. Big image or

Here Mark is still working on his diary, but in the President’s Lounge
in Tocumen Airport, Panamá. This lounge is one of the few good or comfortable
aspects of the airport, which rivals the old Detroit terminal for general
grunginess. The main reason we chose Copa was that we could use our Continental
frequent-flyer miles to upgrade to first class—and the service and food
turned out to be perfectly satisfactory. The other downside to going through
Panamá, though, was that our layover was ten hours. At something like
seven in the evening, we shambled aboard the flight to Santiago, which would take
another six hours. Big image or
